DRDC - FRONTPAGE - Sudanese Refugees Dec 2015

Statement on the Expulsion of Sudanese Refugees from Jordan

The Darfur Relief and Documentation Centre (DRDC) is deeply concerned by the decision of Jordan to expel hundreds of Sudanese refugees and asylum seekers. On Wednesday, 16 December 2015, the security forces rounded-up about 800 Sudanese refugees and detained them in inhumane conditions in large hangers at Queen Alia International Airport in Amman. The overwhelming majority of these refugees and asylum seekers originates from the war-torn Darfur region. They expressed genuine fears for their personal safety and physical integrity in case they were forced back to Sudan. The Jordanian authorities is determined to implement this measure in total disregard to warnings from the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) that they face persecution in Sudan. About 450 of these victims were expelled to Khartoum on Friday, 18 December 2015.
